Analisis Rugi-Rugi Daya Pembengkokan Serat Optik Mode Tunggal Dalam Penentuan Kualitas Sinyal Optik

Optical fiber is a high-tech transmission medium with higher data transfer rates than conventional cables. This technology increases communication efficiency and channel capacity. Its advantages support the optimization of modern communication systems. Despite its advantages, fiber optic communication experiences bending loss interference where signal attenuation occurs due to changes in the structure of the optical fiber when bent, thus causing changes in the refractive index and angle of light reflection on the cladding. This study aims to analyze power losses due to bending of single-mode optical fibers so as to determine the quality of optical signals. This research uses 5 types of SMF performed on Optifiber software with wavelengths of 1310 nm, 1550 nm, bending radius of 20 mm to 46 mm in increments of 2 mm, and using a critical angle of 60 by applying the simple Model 1 (J. Sakai and T. Kimura). The results show that the optical fiber power loss depends on the wavelength used, as well as the radius of the optical fiber. Where at a wavelength of 1310 nm the largest material loss is found in SMF 28 which is 0.0125 dB/km. At a wavelength of 1550 nm the largest material loss is found in SMF 28 which is 31.963 dB/km. The greater the wavelength is used, the greater the material losses value occur, and if the radius of bending is larger, the smaller the bending loss is calculated. This research can assist in overcoming the rupture and damage of optical fibers due to bending.
