Makna Kesenian Bokoba Pada Masyarakat Rokan Hulu Riau (Studi Etnografi Komunikasi Bokoba Di Kecamatan Rambah Kabupaten Rokan Hulu)
Bokoba is a form of oral literature that is conveyed in a told, sung, and
accompanied by musical instruments and using the Malay language. Bokoba is
spoken, listened to, and shared together on certain events related to marriage
ceremonies, rice planting and harvesting ceremonies, the birth of babies, and
magical purposes. This study aims to analyze and describe the communication
situation, communication events and acts of communication at the Bokoba show
in Pasir Pangaraian, Rambah District, Rokan Hulu Regency.
The method used is a qualitative method with an ethnographic study
approach to communication. The research informants were 7 (seven) people with
data collection techniques using interviews, non-participant observations, and
documentation. Techniques of data analysis using the techniques of description,
analysis and interpretation.
The results of this study explain that the Bokoba performance has unit
parts or blends from various aspects of art in one package of Bokoba
performance art, these forms include narrative, acting, song and music. In
principle, seen from the ethnography of communication, Bokoba art has its own
meaning in its presentation. The meanings are: (1) the communication situation,
namely the communication situation that occurred at the Bokoba show in ancient
times was different from today, this can be seen from the setting and scene (2) the
communication events in the Bokoba show which have differences with the
performances in ancient times. seen from the components of communication
events proposed by Hymes called "SPEAKING". (3) acts of communication, in
this concept it is found that Koba artisans are adept at making small talk or
chanting Koba so that the intent and purpose conveyed is understood by the
audience or audience. While the symbolic meaning contained in the Bokoba
performance can be seen from the Bokoba text that is sung, it contains many
values of local wisdom and teaches certain ways, methods or methods to gain
knowledge or truth about life events. Public. Some of the values that can be
concluded in this study are cultural values, religious education values, toughness
values and caring values.
