ABSTRACT
Lightweight bricks are bricks that have a density ranging from 400 kg/m3 to 1.400
kg/m3. Lightweight brick is used as an alternative to building walls. The advantages
of using lightweight bricks are easy to work with, heat-resistant, seepage-resistant,
soundproof and not too burdensome to the structure below. The development goals
of lightweight brick is to increase its resistance to cracking. The added material
used to overcome the problem of lightweight brick cracking in this study is Styrene
Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Latex. SBR Latex is a synthetic rubber that can increase
the bond strength between paste and aggregate and between aggregates, so as to
improve the quality and compressive strength of lightweight bricks. The study aims
to analyze the effect of using SBR Latex added on the compressive strength and
modulus of elasticity of lightweight bricks using a variety of sand materials. The
sand used came from 2 different areas,. The significant difference between the two
sands lies in the silt content. Sludge content of P1 is less than 5%, while P2 is
greater than 5%. The specimens were made measuring 10 cm long, 10 cm wide, 10
cm high with variations in the addition of SBR Latex, namely 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%,
2.0%, 2.5% by weight. cement. The compressive strength test was carried out at the
age of 3, 7 and 28 days. While the displacement test at the age of 28 days. The tool
used in the compressive strength test is a load cell and displacement using a Linear
Variable Displacement Transducer (LVDT). The results of compressive strength
and shortening are then used to calculate the modulus of elasticity of lightweight
bricks. Based on the test results, Based on the test results, P1 lightweight brick with
SBR Latex of 1.5% can increase the value of compressive strength by 24.76% and
increase the modulus of elasticity by 46.2% compared to without the addition of
SBR Latex. for P2 lightweight brick with SBR Latex 2.0% can increase the value of
compressive strength by 100% and increase the value of modulus of elasticity by
50.5% compared to without the addition of SBR Latex. The concluded that the
addition of SBR Latex can increase the compressive strength and modulus of
elasticity of lightweight bricks. Thus the use of SBR Latex in lightweight brick
mixtures can be applied by lightweight brick manufacturers and become a reference
for further research.
