Uji Beberapa Konsentrasi Ekstrak Biji Pinang (Areca Catechu L.) Terhadap Mortalitas Hama Ulat Grayak Jagung (Spodoptera Frugiperda J. E. Smith)
ABSTRACT
Spodoptera frugiperda J. E. Smith are the main pests that are very damaging to
corn plant. One way to control S. frugiperda pests is to use botanical insecticide betel
nut seed (Areca catechu L.). This study aims to obtain a concentration of betel nut
seed extract (Areca catechu L.) that is effective in controlling corn fall armyworm
pests (Spodoptera frugiperda J. E. Smith). The research was conducted at the Plant
Pest Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, Pekanbaru from May
to July 2021, using a complete random design (CRD) with five treatments and four
repeats with the concentration of betel nut seed extract which is 0 g.l-1 water, 20 g.l-1
water, 40 g.l-1 water, 60 g.l-1 water and 80 g.l-1 water. The results showed that the
treatment of some concentrations of betel nut seed extract (Areca catechu L.) exerted
a noticeable influence in killing the pest S. frugiperda J. E. Smith. Application of
betel nut seed extract at a concentration of 60 g.l-1 water is the best concentration and
a concentration of 80 g.l-1 water is an effective concentration to kill the larvae of S.
frugiperda by 82.50% with the initial time of death which is 21.25 hours after
application and lethal time of 50 which is 33.75 hours after application.
