Komunikasi Interpersonal Konselor Dalam Menumbuhkan Kepercayaan Diri Orang Dengan Hiv/Aids (Odha) Pada Yayasan Sebaya Lancang Kuning Pekanbaru
Problems in the social environment of the community that have a bad
perception will cause PLWHA to become depressed and lose confidence in
themselves. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness and
barriers to interpersonal communication of counselors in growing self-confidence
of PLWHA. This type of research is qualitative using a descriptive approach.
Data collection by in-depth interviews, non-participant observation and
documentation. Informants in this study were selected based on purpose sampling
technique, the validity of the data was tested using source triangulation.
The results of this study show that openness in general can occur between
counselors and PLWHA by: Counselors provide correct information, moral
support, There is a forum (online support) to communicate with PLWHA and
counselors, role models (PLWHA who survive), openness of PLWHA who occurs
are: Open (field I); nothing is hidden by PLWHA from counselors and their
parents, not open (Field III), does not inform other people and parents of their
status, except to counselors. Counselors have communicated with empathy that
has been maintained, empathy quickly occurs when: counselors who have the
same background as PLWHA, with two-way communication using verbal nonverbal
language and the presence of PLWHA's trust in the counselor. Counselor
support for PLWHA is to communicate flexibly, not rigidly and with mutual
respect, involving PLWHA in the process and treatment. The positive attitude that
occurs in PLWHA is that the information conveyed by the counselor can be
accepted and applied properly so that PLWHA becomes confident. Equality that
occurs: there is no psychological distance between the counselor and PLWHA.
Barriers occur in a small proportion of PLWHA, namely physiological and
psychological barriers, PLWHA experience a bad self-concept and result in
insecurity, feeling worthless. The findings obtained in the current study are:
interpersonal communication of counselors in growing self-confidence of people
with HIV/AIDS at the Sebaya Lancang Kuning Foundation is carried out: "in
stages" supported by the presence of peer counselors (having the same
background as PLWHA), two-way communication verbal and non-verbal
directions, role models, online support, mutual respect, involving PLWHA in
every activity and their treatment
