Poems of Advice to children contain good messages consisting of 18 verses of poetry. In this poem, many do not know the moral message conveyed by Raja Ali Haji due to the existence of figurative language terms that are not easy to understand right away. This study aims to determine the meaning of markers and omens in each stanza of Advice to Children by Raja Ali Haji, and to find out what the moral message is contained in each stanza of the poem.
This study uses a qualitative method and uses Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory to identify markers and omens and to find out the 18 stanza moral message in Raja Ali Haji's verse Advice to Children. Then the moral message contained in each verse of Advice to Children as the object of research. The data collection techniques are carried out by literature studies, interviews and documentation.
The markers and omens in the verses of Advice to Children by Raja Ali Haji produce moral message meanings, namely wisdom, honesty, respect and obedience to teachers, conscientiousness, restraining one's passions, reminding/giving advice to each other, guarding one's words and attitudes, clever self-placement, careless reckless, the importance of studying knowledge, an authoritative leader, having a sense of humanity, one's faith, fear of God, saying greetings (remembrance of God). The moral message most commonly found in the poem Advice to Children by Raja Ali Haji based on Nurgiyantoro's concept is the moral message of human relations with other humans.
