Pengaruh Serat Pendek Dan Serat Panjang Terhadap Kekuatan Impak Pada Komposit High Density Polyethylene-Fiberglass
ABSTRACK
Polyethylene is a product that is widely used and used for a long time. One type, namely HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is formed into a composite material, by adding reinforcement in the form of short fiberglass and long fiberglass. The composites were subjected to an Impact test to determine the impact strength and to analyze the impact strength and the influence of fiberglass on the HDPE composite structure, so that the HDPE-Fiberglass composite could be used as a replacement for ABS (Acronitrile Butadiene Styrene) car bumpers which are commonly used as car bumpers. Composites are made with variations in the composition of HDPE as a matrix and fiberglass as reinforcement through mixing methods, composition variations based on volume fraction (70% HDPE: 30% glass fiber), and (80% HDPE: 20% glass fiber) printed material in a heating machine (T = 140°C) and pressed for ±45 minutes, the test specimens were cut according to the ASTM D6110 standard for impact testing with the charpy method. Long fiberglass composite HDPE composition 70% vol, fiberglass 30% vol, average Impact strength 176.838 Joule/mm², HDPE composition 80% vol, fiberglass 20% vol, average Impact strength 208.08 Joule/mm² . Short fiberglass composite composition of HDPE 70% vol, fiberglass 30% vol, average Impact strength 72.858 Joule/mm², HDPE composition 80% vol, fiberglass 20% vol, average Impact strength 33,394 Joule/mm². Based on the research of ABS mixture at 40%/60% vol mixture variation the average Impact strength was 24.8 Joule/mm2, and at 20%/80% vol variation the Impact strength was 18 Joule/mm². Lower than HDPE-Fiberglass composites, with this HDPE-Fiberglass composites potential for be used as a substitute for ABS (Acronitrile Butadiene Styrene) for car bumpers.
