ABSTRACT
REPRESENTATION OF OPTIMISM IN THE SPEECH OF THE BAND BEYOND THE SCENE (BTS) IN THE FACE OF THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC IN THE VIDEO OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2021
(ROLAND BARTHES SEMIOTICS ANALYSIS)
The Covid-19 pandemic is a global catastrophe that has infected hundreds of thousands and killed thousands more. The impact caused by Covid-19 does not only cause social, economic, and health problems but also psychologically for the community. Therefore, in the face of the increasingly high Covid-19 pandemic, there is great energy that can be built, one of which is an attitude of optimism in the face of this Covid-19 pandemic. The United Nations General Assembly 2021 United Nations Assembly invited one of the famous Korean bands, Beyond The Scene (BTS). They were appointed to deliver a speech discussing the current Covid-19 pandemic. The presence of BTS at the 2021 UN assembly is expected to be an opportunity to expand communication to future generations around the world and attract their sympathy regarding current problems.
This research is a kind of qualitative research with semiotic analysis method of Roland Barthes. The purpose of this study is to find out how the meaning of Denotation, Connotation, Myth and Optimism Representation in BTS's speech at the UNGA 2021 UN General Assembly. The subject of this research is the audience of the BTS group speech video at the UNGA 2021 UN General Assembly. The object of this research is the video group speech. BTS band in the UNGA UNGA 2021 general assembly. This study uses observation and documentation data collection techniques. Data analysis techniques by reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. Then to achieve the validity of the research data, the authors use triangulation.
The results show that the meaning of denotation in the video speech of the band Beyond The Scene (BTS) at the United Nations General Assembly 2021 shows that each BTS member conveys a message of optimism by giving positive messages, enthusiasm and motivation in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic with connotative meanings. namely optimism in facing the COVID-19 pandemic by strengthening each other, always thinking positively, and not giving up. Then the meaning of the myth shown that people who have an optimistic attitude are people who face difficulties with positive thoughts so that they will remain enthusiastic and believe that every difficulty will be faced and resolved well.
