Biologi Predator Ulat Api Eocanthecona Furcellata Wolff (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) Dengan Mangsa Ulat Grayak Spodoptera Frugiperda J. E. Smith Di Laboratorium
ABSTRACT
Oil palm is the main plantation crop in Riau Province. Oil palm cultivation is inseparable from nettle caterpillar pest attacks. Pest control generally uses synthetic insecticides so that alternative controls are needed using natural enemies such as the predator Eocanthecona furcellata. The use of predators requires a large number, so it needs breeding efforts but is constrained by the availability of prey. Alternative prey that can be used is Spodoptera frugiperda. This study aims to obtain biological data of Eocanthecona furcellata fed Spodoptera frugiperda larvae as its prey. This research was conducted in the Laboratory of Plant Pests, University of Riau. This study used the observation method, namely observing the development of Eocanthecona furcellata in 100 observational samples. The results showed that the personality of Eocanthecona furcellata was 85.77 eggs/adult and the percentage of eggs that hatched was 86.20%. The nymphal stage consisted of 5 instars with a nymphal period of 18.69 days. The number of female offspring was more than the male with a sex ratio of male: female, namely 42.65%: 57.35%. The life span of female imago was longer than that of male imago which was 26.05 days and 23.93 days. The life cycle of the predator Eocanthecona furcellata was 49.43 days. Spodoptera frugiperda larvae can be used as alternative prey in the breeding of predator Eocanthecona furcellata. Keywords: Eocanthecona furcellata, oil palm, predator, Spodoptera frugiperda
