ABSTRACT
Chili is a plant that has great prospects in agriculture. Chilies have the potential to be planted on peatlands. One of challenges is that there are few plant kinds that are adapted to peatlands. Plant breeding initiatives are used to find superior cultivars that are tolerant of peatlands. Selection can be done through genetic parameters, such as diversity and heritability components. The purpose of this research was to estimate the components of diversity and heritability values for several chili genotypes on peatlands. The study used a randomized block design consisting of eight treatments and three replications. The results showed that the characters of fruit diameter, flesh thickness, weight per fruit, and amount of fruit per plant showed wide genetic diversity. All characters showed wide phenotypic diversity. Heritability analysis indicated that plant height, dichotomous height, fruit stalk length, fruit flesh thickness, fruit weight, fruit weight per plant, and amount of fruits per plant were highly heritable. Characters of fruit diameter, thickness of fruit flesh, weight per fruit, and amount of fruit per plant can be used as selection criteria because they have a wide genetic diversity value and high heritability value.
