Indonesia has waste that has not been utilized optimally, especially molasses. Molasses contain sugar with levels (50-60%) which can be processed into lactic acid by a fermentation process. Lactic acid is a chemical that is needed in many industries such as the food, beverage, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The main raw materials used in the manufacture of lactic acid with the fermentation process are molasses and 98% sulfuric acid. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously for 24 hours/day with a capacity of 6,000 tons/year which will be built in the Sliwung area, Situbondo Regency, East Java. The remaining time during the operation process is used for shutdown, plant maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair. The form of the company chosen is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with an organizational system line and staff. The employee work system is based on the division of working hours consisting of employees shift and non shift. The main tool design in this factory is the reactor acidifier(R-102) which functions to react calcium lactate with sulfuric acid to produce lactic acid and calcium sulfate. Reactor acidifier It is operated at a pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 75 ⁰C. The economic analysis of this plant design shows that the lactic acid plant is feasible to establish. With value Break Even Point (BEP) of 36.757%,Rate of Investment (ROI) of 31.385%, Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.730%, andPay Back Periode (PBP) for 2,385 years.
