ABSTRACT
Along with the development of the paper industry in the world, it is very important
to pay attention to the quality of the paper produced. One of the things that affect
the quality of the paper produced is the paper filler or filler. Company PT. RAPP
produces PCC as a paper filler. Limestone size and burning time are two factors
that affect the quality of the raw materials used to make PCC. This final project
was carried out to determine the effect of limestone size and burning time on the
quality of PCC raw materials, including to determine the value of available CaO,
residual CaCO; and the brightness value that is produced when the stone size is
varied and the burning time is varied. The value of available CaO and residual
CaCO: can affect paper strength, while the brightness value can affect brightness.
the resulting paper. Tests were carried out by burning stones measuring 40 mm,
40-70 mm, 70-100 mm and > 100 mm with variations in burning time of 4 hours,
8 hours, 12 hours and 16 hours. Stones with a size < 70 mm produce good quality
when burned for 8 hours and stones with a size > 70 mm will produce good
quality when burned for ± 16 hours.
