ABSTRACT
Corn is a type of seed plant that contains high carbohydrates after rice. Corn is used as a staple food in several regions in Indonesia, besides that corn can be used for animal feed and industrial raw materials. Efforts to increase corn production are still experiencing problems such as the attack of Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith which can cause yield losses of 15-73% if the plant population is attacked by 55-100%. Plant leaf pesticides suren (Toona sureni Merr) can be a safe alternative for controlling S. frugiperda. This research aims toto obtain the effective concentration of suren leaf extract (Toona sureni Merr) on Spodoptera frugiperda mortality.The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pests, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, in January to March 2023, using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments and 4 replications. Treatment application consists of concentration 0 g.l-1 water, 20 g.l-1 water, 40 g.l-1 water, 60 g.l-1 water, 80 g.l-1 water and 100 g.l-1 water suren leaf extract.The results showed that the difference in concentration had a significant effect on the death of S. frugiperda. Concentration Suren leaf extract 100 g.l-1 water is an effective concentration in controlling S. frugiperda larvae because it can cause a total mortality of 82.5% with an initial death time of 11.75 hours after application and a lethal time of 50 at 58.50 hours after application.
