ABSTRACT
Corn (Zea mays. L) is an important food commodity after rice and wheat. There is a new species of armyworm that is known to be associated with corn plants in various parts of the world called Fall Amryworm (FAW) or Spodoptera frugiperda. The purpose of this study was to observe the existence and development of S. frugiperda on maize plantations in Kualu Village, Tambang District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. This research was conducted in January-April 2021. Sampling was carried out in three plantations of residents of different ages. For each observation location, land area was measured and plots were made, for each land area five plots were made. The data obtained is presented descriptively in the form of pictures and tables. The results obtained were 42 individuals consisting of 21 individuals in 2 MST aged fields, 12 individuals in 6 MST aged fields and 9 individuals in 9 MST aged fields. The developmental stages of S. frugiperda include eggs, larvae, pupae and imago. The larval stage consists of 6 instars. The larvae will undergo a process of molting at the turn of each instar. The larval phase before becoming a pupa is called pre-pupa, then it will develop into a pupa and then become an imago.
