Penyisihan Zat Organik Dan Warna Dari Air Gambut Menggunakan Adsorben Beads Komposit Chitosan-Bentonite Dengan Variasi Dosis Adsorben Dan Waktu Kontak
ABSTRACT
Peat water in Riau Province has the potential to meet the water demand in the region in terms of quantity. However, in terms of quality, it does not meet the criteria for clean water and requires treatment. The aim of this research is to analyze the characteristics, adsorption efficiency of organic matter and color in peat water, and calculate the adsorption capacity and equilibrium model using chitosan-bentonite composite beads. The method used is batch adsorption. Chitosan is a biopolymer derived from chitin with weak mechanical properties and is soluble in acidic environments. Bentonite is one of the composite materials that can enhance the stability of chitosan in acidic environments. The research was conducted by varying the adsorbent dosage at 4, 12, 20, 60, and 100 g/L, and contact time at 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes for the removal of organic matter and color in peat water. The characterization of chitosan-bentonite composite beads showed a water absorption capacity of 607.28%, and SEM analysis indicated that the beads have pores suitable for adsorption. The highest efficiency in removing organic matter and color at natural pH was achieved at an adsorbent dosage of 100 g/L and contact time of 150 minutes, with values of 98,4% and 90.47% at, respectively. The adsorption capacity maximum was found to be 38,25 mg/g, and the adsorption equilibrium followed Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms with R2 values of 0.993 and 0.987, respectively. The result of this study have met the quality standards established by the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017 on Hygiene and Sanitation.
