Prarancangan Pabrik Dimethyl Pthalate Proses Esterifikasi Dengan Desain Alat Utama Evaporator (Ev-101)
ABSTRACT
The polymer industry produces various types of plastic products, synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers and so on. In the process of making polymers, besides requiring resin as the main raw material, it also requires plasticizers as additional materials. Plasticizers are materials added to resin to make it soft and easy to shape. Dimethyl phthalate is one type of plasticizer used. Dimethyl phthalate is a complex ester of methyl alcohol and orthophthalic acid. In this design a dimethyl phthalate factory will be built with a capacity of 15,000 tons/year in the Gresik industrial area, East Java. Dimethyl phthalate will be made using phthalic anhydride and methanol as raw materials through an esterification reaction. The dimethyl phthalate plant is planned to operate for 330 days a year while the remaining time will be used for shutdown, maintenance and repair of equipment. The company was established in the form of a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure. The employee work system consists of a shift system for operating and utility unit employees, while office employees use a non-shift system. The main tool designed in this design is the evaporator (EV-101) with a long tube vertical evaporator type. The design results obtained evaporator height of 5.24 m and a diameter of 0.74 m. Factory profitability analysis obtained a Break Even Point (BEP) of 40%, Rate of Return (ROI) of 46.57%, Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.76% and Payout Time (POT) of 1.96 years. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the dimethyl phthalate plant is economically feasible to establish.
