Pemanfaatan Microalgal-Bacterial Granular Sludge (Mbgs) Dalam Penyisihan Cod Dan Amonia (Nh3) Pada Limbah Cair Domestik Menggunakan Photobioreactor (Pbr)
ABSTRACT
Domestic wastewater has become an important issue that arises in line with the increasing human population. Domestic wastewater contains high organic matter, so it can reduce water quality if it is directly discharged into water bodies. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Environment in 2014 around 60-70% of rivers in Indonesia have been polluted by domestic wastewater. For this reason, it is necessary to treat domestic wastewater before being discharged into water bodies. One alternative for domestic wastewater treatment is to use Microalgal-Bacterial Granular Sludge (MBGS). MBGS was developed as a domestic wastewater treatment plant which has the advantages of compact and solid structure, short hydraulic residence time, excellent settling ability, and high efficiency of removing COD and ammonia simultaneously. This study aims to study the effect of varying MBGS concentrations on reducing COD and ammonia in domestic wastewater using a photobioreactor. This study used 3 variations of MBGS concentrations, namely PBR 1 (6 g/L), PBR 2 (8 g/L), PBR 3 (10 g/L) and Control (Activated Sludge) and a contact time of 5 days. The best results were shown in PBR 2 with various concentrations of MBGS 8 g/L. The MBGS formed has a compact and solid structure with a granular diameter of 0.88-1 mm, a VSS of 6.31 g/L, an SVI5 of 30 mL/g, and high COD and ammonia removal efficiencies of 98% and 96% on the day-3.
