Pemanfaatan Kacang Tunggak (Vigna Unguiculata L.) Dan Pac Sebagai Koagulan Dalam Proses Koagulasi-Flokulasi Air Gambut
ABSTRACT
Peat water has special characteristics, namely brownish color, high organic matter,
low pH between 2-5, so it needs to be processed so that it can be used for daily
needs. Treatment that can be used is coagulation-flocculation. The coagulants used
in this study were cowpea and PAC. The purpose of this study was to determine the
efficiency of using cowpea for removal of organic matter and color in peat water,
to compare the results of using cowpea as coagulant with PAC coagulant and to
calculate the sludge volume index (SVI) and sludge mass. The preparation of
cowpea is drying the cowpea in the sun for 7 days, then pulverizing it with a blender
and sifting it with a 200 mesh sieve. The coagulation-flocculation process was
carried out using a jar test with fast stirring of 100 rpm for 1 minute, slow stirring
of 40 rpm for 20 minutes, with variations in the dose of cowpea namely 0.5 g/L, 1
g/L, 1.5 g/L, 2 g/L, 2.5 g/L, and 3 g/L and variations in PAC doses are 0.15 g/l/L,
0.16 g/L, 0.17 g/L, 0.18 g/L L, 0.19 g/L, 0.20 g/L, and 0.21 g/L. The results showed
that the best dose of cowpea was 3 g/L with organic matter and color removal
efficiency of 91 % and 94,85 %. The best dose of PAC is at a dose of 0.21 g/L with
organic matter and color removal efficiency of 98.67% and 98.26%. The SVI and
sludge mass values of cowpea were 26,25 mL/g and 98,6 %, the SVI and sludge
mass PAC values were 69.83 mL/g and 118.14 %.
