Prarancangan Pabrik Piridin Dari Formaldehid Dengan Proses Chichibabin Dengan Desain Alat Utama Menara Distilasi Piridin (T-101)
ABSTRACT
Pyridine is a heterocyclic organic compound whose structure resembles benzene where one methyl group is replaced by a nitrogen atom with the chemical formula C5H5N. Pyridine is used as a raw material for pharmaceuticals, paint solvents, rubber, and polycarbonate resins. The need for pyridine in Indonesia is still met through import activities. The pyridine plant is planned to operate for 330 days for 24 hours with a capacity of 5,500 tons/year to be established in Bontang, East Kalimantan. The raw materials used in the design of this plant are formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and ammonia using the chichibabin process. The main equipment design in this plant design is the Distillation Tower which functions to separate the pyridine dissolved in benzene. The distillation tower operates at a pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 82 oC. Economic analysis of this plant design shows that the pyridine plant using the chichibabin process is feasible to establish with a Return of Investment (ROI) value of 61.3% and a Payback Period (PBP) of 1.5 years.
