Prarancangan Pabrik Metilamina Proses Kvaerner Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Fixed Bed Multitube Aminasi (R-101)
ABSTRACT
Methylamine is an important ingredient in the chemical industry which is grouped into monomethylamine (MMA), dimethylamine (DMA), and trimethylamine (TMA). Monomethylamine is used as a raw material in the pharmaceutical industry as an antipasmodic and analgesic. Dimethylamine is an intermediate in making the solvents dimethylformamide and dimethylacetamide as well as in making fungicides, while trimethylamine is mainly used in making croline for poultry food. The need for methylamine is still met through import activities. The methylamine factory is planned to operate for 330 days 24 hours with a capacity of 25,000 tons per year which will be established in Bontang district, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The raw materials used in the design of the methylamine plant are methanol and ammonia using the Kvaerner process. The main tool design in this factory design is the Fixed Bed Multitube Reactor which functions to form monomethylamine, dimethylamine and trimethylamine. The Multitube Fixed Bed Reactor operates at a pressure condition of 20 atm and a temperature of 400oC. Economic analysis of this factory design shows that a methylamine factory using the Kvaerner process is feasible to establish with a Return on Investment (ROI) of 29.377% and a Pay Back Period (PBP) of 2.53 years.
