Analisis Faktor-Faktor Yang Berhubungan Dengan Gangguan Neuropati Pada Pasien HIV/Aids Di RSUD Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau
Background:
The HIV/AIDS infection can attack the central and peripheral nervous systems, leading to various neurological complications. Risk factors that can cause neuropathic disorders include age, gender, duration of diagnosis, clinical stage of HIV, CD4 count, viral load, ARV therapy, and opportunistic infections. The manifestations of neuropathic disorders are neuropathic pain, numbness, and pins and needles sensation. These symptoms can disrupt daily activities and decrease the quality of life, requiring appropriate screening and prevention strategies. One screening modality is the Brief Peripheral Neuropathy Screening (BPNS) questionnaire, which is very easy and practical to use. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with HIV/AIDS patients at Arifin Achmad Hospital.
Method: This study has an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional study. The research instrument used was the BPNS questionnaire. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling with a minimum sample of 40 individuals. Categorical variable analysis used the chi-square test.
Results: The participants in the study consisted of 40 HIV/AIDS patients, with the majority being male, 32 (80%) individuals, and most of them were under 40 years old, 30 (75%) individuals. The prevalence of neuropathic disorders in HIV/AIDS patients was 47.5%. The factors associated with neuropathic disorders were the use of ARV Zidovudine or Dolutegravir (OR=6,094; p=0.022). Other risk factors such as age, gender, occupation, duration of diagnosis, CD4 count, clinical stage, and duration of ARV therapy were not associated with the occurrence of neuropathic disorders in HIV/AIDS patients (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The factor associated with neuropathic disorders in HIV/AIDS patients was the use of ARV Zidovudine or Dolutegravir.
