Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the type and abudance of microplastics in the water and sediment of the Siak Watershed. this study was conducted from March to May 2023. Sampling was done once a month for three months. There were 4 research stations, namely Air Hitam River, Sago River, Umban Sari River and Pengambang River. Surface water samples were taken as much as 10 liters, then filtered using plankton net No. 25 while sediment samples were taken using a 4-inch paralon pipe with a depth of 0-15 cm and then put in plastic. Water and sediment samples were identified for their microplastic content using an Olympus CX 21 binocular microscope. The results shown that at all stations microplastic types of fiber, film, fragments were found, but with different abundances. The abundance of microplastics in Air Hitam River ranged from 16.6 - 63,3 particles/m3, Sago River: 23.3 - 161.6 particles/m3, Umban Sari: 6.6-76.6 particles/m3, Pengambang: 6.6-70 particles/m3. The type of plastic found in the sediment were fiber, film, fragments and pellets. The abundance of microplastics in the sediments of the Air Hitam River were 68,3 -333 particles / m2, Sago River 37,3 - 444 particles / m2, Umban.Sari 95 – 264,4 particles / m2.Pengambang 90 – 206 particles / m2.
