Efek Ekstrak Inulin Umbi Dahlia Terhadap Insulitis Pada Tikus Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2
ABSTRACT
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM) is a metabolic disorder caused by impaired insulin function and insulin deficiency. Inflammation of pancreatic islets (insulitis) has been known to be one of the etiopathologies of type 2 DM. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of inulin extract of dahlia tuber as a potential anti-inflammatory agent against insulitis in type 2 DM rats. This study used the dahlia tubers due to their inulin content which is considered to have anti-inflammatory properties that may contribute to the management of diabetes. In this study, twenty-five Rattus norvegicus rats were divided into 5 groups: control group (K1), type 2 DM group (K2), type 2 DM group given 0,5mg/g BW inulin extract (K3), type 2 DM group given 1 mg/g BW inulin extract (K4), and type 2 DM group given 1,5 mg/g BW inulin extract (K5). After 21 days, the five groups were terminated to observe the histopathology of the rat pancreas. The results showed that the administration of 0,5 mg/g BW, 1 mg/g BW and 1,5 mg/g BW inulin extract of dahlia tuber could significantly reduce the insulitis score compared to the type 2 DM rat group (p
