ABSTRACT
Malaria is one of the major life-threatening problems in Indonesia caused by the Plasmodium parasite. Indonesia is the country with the most malaria cases in Asia after India. One of the provinces in Indonesia that is still trying to control the transmission of malaria is Riau Province. This study aims to describe the distribution of malaria in 12 districts/cities of Riau Province based on the number of cases, patient characteristics namely gender, age group, occupation, type of Plasmodium, and also the climatic conditions of the Riau region. This research design is descriptive with a total sampling method using secondary data from the Riau Provincial Health Office data, namely malaria case data and rainfall data from BMKG Riau Province. The results showed a total of 2708 cases during the period 2021 - 2022, with the most cases occurring in Rokan Hilir Regency. Based on gender, the male population was more infected with malaria, with 1719 cases (63%). The age group most commonly found was the 26 - 45 years age group (39%) with the majority of the occupational group being students (23%). While the majority of Plasmodium infected was Plasmodium vivax, namely 2623 cases (97%). Pekanbaru is the city with the highest rainfall throughout 2021-2022, while the lowest rainfall is in Bengkalis Regency. However, there was no linear fluctuation between rainfall and the number of malaria cases in Riau.
