Abstract
Maxillofacial fracture is one of the most common forms of trauma and becomes one of the causes of disability and death in the world. Mandibular fractures occur around 15.5—59% of total maxillofacial fracture cases and becoming the second most common maxillofacial fracture cases. As the only one mobile facial bone, the mandible has an important role in the processes of speaking, expressing, chewing and swallowing, so mandibular fractures can cause problems and reduce the quality of life. This research used a descriptive analytical study with a cross sectional method to find out the description of mandibular fractures in trauma cases, the association between patient characteristics and severity, as well as the association between severity and complications of mandibular fractures at Arifin Achmad Hospital on 2020—2022. This study used 80 medical records of patients who fit the criteria. Based on the
80 samples, 49 patients (61.3%) were adults (18-40 years), male gender 62 patients (77.5%), caused by RTA 60 patients (75%), fractures parasymphyseal 25 cases (20.2%), 1 region of fracture 46 patients (57.5%), F3 fracture (severe) 37 patients (46.3%), open reduction treatment 51 patients (63.7%), length of stay > 1 week 53 patients (66.3 %), patients with complications were 11 patients (13.7%). There were no association between severity and age (p=0.304), etiology (p=0.687), and there were a significant association between severity and gender (p=0.013) and complications (p=0.050).
