Uji Predasi Sycanus annulicornis Dohrn. Dengan Mangsa Ulat Jelang (Setora Nitens Walker.) Di Laboratorium
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is the most popular and widespread plantation commodity in Indonesia. The nettle caterpillar (Setora nitens Walker.) is the main pest that attacks oil palm plants and is dominantly found in oil palm plantations in Riau. The predator Sycanus annulicornis Dohrn. is a potential natural enemy in controlling nettle caterpillar (S. nitens). This study aims to determine the ability to prey on S. annulicornis imago with nettle caterpillar prey (S. nitens). The research was conducted at the Plant Pest Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, from March to July 2023. The study was designed in the form of a completely randomized design (CRD) method consisting of 3 treatments with 7 replications. The treatment used was S. annulicornis imago: N1= 1 male imago, N2= 1 female imago, and N3= 1 pair of imago (male and female), with observation parameters of first and second prey search time, prey handling time, predation power and total predation. The results showed that the prey handling time of one nettle caterpillar (S. nitens) by the predator S. annulicornis was 3,86-5,14 hours. The treatment of one pair of S. annulicornis imago was the best treatment because it produced the fastest prey search time of 0,79 minutes for the first prey and 0,71 minutes for the second prey, as well as prey handling time tends to be faster at 3,86 hours with a total predation of nettle caterpillar (S. nitens) of 100%.
