Variasi Ukuran Partikel Terhadap Kualitas Arang Aktif Serat Kelapa Dengan Aktivasi Kimia Menggunakan Natrium Karbonat
This study aims to obtain selected characteristics of activated charcoal made from areca palm fiber with the help of natrium carbonate as an activator. This study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatment in this study used a particles size variation U1 (100 mesh particle size), U2 (110 mesh particle size), U3 (120 mesh particle size), U4 (130 mesh particle size), U5 (140 mesh particle size). Observations were made of the yield, moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, pure carbon content and iodine absorption. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using statistical software IBM SPSS version 23 with an analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, if Fcount ≥ Ftable then the treatment has a significant effect and the analysis will be continued with the further test of Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) at level 5%. The results showed that the increase in particle size used had a significant effect on the characteristics of activated charcoal produced. The best treatment of activated charcoal was found in the U5 treatment (140 mesh particle size) with a yield of 68.69%, moisture content of 6.31%, ash content of 6.66%, volatile matter content of 8.03%, pure carbon content of 78.81% and absorption of iodine of 900.99 mg/g.
