Prarancangan Pabrik Vinil Klorida Proses Klorinasi Langsung Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Fixed Bed Multitube (R-101)
Vinyl chloride is generally produced as a material for making polymers, especially
polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The aim of establishing a vinyl chloride factory is to
increase domestic production capacity and build Indonesia's ability to become an
exporter. Vinyl chloride is produced through a direct chlorination process with the
main raw materials being ethylene and chlorine. This process takes place in a fixed
bed reactor at a temperature of 90 °C and a pressure of 1.5 atm which produces
1,2-dichloroethane with a conversion of 97%. Then 1,2-dichloroethane combines
with the recycle stream and is fed to the reactor furnace (F-201). In the furnace
reactor (F-201) a pyrolysis process occurs so that vinyl chloride and HCl are
obtained. Vinyl chloride as the main product is separated and purified using a
distillation column, to obtain a purity of 99.8%, while the bottom output 1,2-
dichloroethane is recycled. The vinyl chloride plant is planned to operate 330 days
per year and work continuously 24 hours/day. One day's work is divided into three
shifts and each shift works for 8 hours. This factory has a capacity of 51,000
tons/year which will be established in Cilegon City, Banten. The direct chlorination
process was chosen because of the affordable price of raw materials, the process
is not extreme, the purity of the vinyl chloride product produced is high, and the
recycle in pyrolysis. Economic analysis in this factory design shows the Break
Event Point (BEP) value in the 5th year with production of 43%, Shut Down Point
(SDP) of 13%, Pay Back Period (PBP) of 3,097 years, Rate of Investment (ROI )
of 23.191%, and Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.697%. Based on the analysis
of process and economic conditions, the vinyl chloride factory design is feasible
and has good prospects.
