Pyridine is a heterocyclic organic compound that is basic. The structure of pyridine is similar to benzene where one methyl group is replaced by a nitrogen atom. Pyridine has been widely used in various industrial sectors. The pharmaceutical industry uses pyridine in the manufacture of drugs such as antimicrobial agents, antiviral agents, antidiabetic agents, and anti-inflammatory agents. The aim of establishing the Pyridine factory is to meet the need for Pyridine in Indonesia, reduce the number of imports from abroad and open new job opportunities so as to reduce unemployment. The reaction process for making pyridine is carried out using a reaction between formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and ammonia as raw materials with the name of the process being chichibabin pyridine synthesis. This reaction takes place in the gas phase so the reactants must be heated first then converted into steam and reacted using a catalyst. In the pyridine factory there are 4 tools that function to separate and purify products including, Flash Drum 1 (SP-101), Distillation Tower (T-101), Mixer & Settler Tank (MS-101) and Flash Drum 2 (SP-102) . Flash Drum 2 (SP-102) is a very important tool in the pyridine factory. This tool separates a mixture of unreacted reagents as the top product from waste water as the bottom product. This factory is planned to operate 330 days a year and 24 hours per day. The remaining days that are not holidays are used for repairs or maintenance and shut down. Meanwhile, employee working hours are divided into two groups, namely shift employees and non-shift employees. This factory with a capacity of 5,500 tonnes/year will be established in the Kaltim Industrial State Bontang Industrial Area, East Kalimantan Province-Indonesia. Economic analysis in this factory design shows the Break Event Point (BEP) value in the 5th year with production of 43.65%, Pay Back Period (PBP) of 1.296 years (≈ 1.5 years), Rate of Investment (ROI) of 61.335%, and Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.749%.
