Penerapan Model Problem Based Learning Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Komunikasi Matematis Siswa Kelas Viii Smp Negeri 42 Pekanbaru
This research is motivated by the low mathematical communication skills of students in class VIII SMP Negeri 42 Pekanbaru which is caused by the learning process that is still teacher-centered so that students are not actively involved in learning. One way to overcome this is by applying the Problem Based Learning model. This type of research is a classroom action research consisting of two cycles. Each cycle includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. This action was carried out at SMP Negeri 42 Pekanbaru even semester of the 2022/2023 learning year in class VIII.1 which numbered 39 people. The research instrument used is a learning device consisting of a syllabus, lesson plans, and student activity sheets. While the data collection instrument consists of observation sheets and tests of mathematical communication skills. Teacher and student activity observation sheets were analyzed descriptively qualitatively and mathematical communication ability data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The observation results showed that the learning process had improved from cycle I to cycle II where in the learning process students were active and learning was student-centered. The results of the mathematical communication skills test showed that there was an increase in students' mathematical communication skills. The average test results of students' mathematical communication skills increased from the initial test of 44.44 to 73.93 in the mathematical communication skills test I and 88.02 in the mathematical communication skills test cycle II. The results showed that the application of Problem Based Learning model can improve the learning process and increase the mathematical communication skills of students in class VIII SMP Negeri 42 Pekanbaru.
