This type of research is ex-post facto with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were 119 school dropouts in Tenayan Raya District, Pekanbaru City. The sampling technique with Simple Random Sampling is a method of drawing from a population or universe in a certain way so that each member of the population or universe has the same opportunity to be selected or taken, using the Slovin formula, then the sample is 92 school dropouts. The data in this study were analyzed using descriptive data analysis, hypothesis testing, looking for the influence of parental social support variables on the self-adjustment variables of dropout adolescents.
The data collection method in this study used: (1) documentation; (2) observation and (3) documents (4) questionnaires. The research instrument consisted of two forms of questionnaires consisting of: 1) Parental Social Support, 2) Self-Adjustment. The research instrument went through several stages, namely: 1) reviewing all theories related to the variables to be studied, 2) compiling indicators for each variable, 3) compiling grids 4) compiling statement items and determining measurement scales, 5) instrument trials, 6) item analysis by testing the validity and reliability of each statement item. The data analysis techniques used in this study were descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis.
Based on the analysis of demographic factors of respondents' self-adjustment of dropout adolescents, high results were obtained, namely with a mean of 3.69. This proves that demographic factors (level of education, gender, and age) can determine the high and low levels of self-adjustment of dropout adolescents. Then based on descriptive analysis based on variables, the level of adjustment of dropout adolescents was obtained with a mean of 3.74 which is in the high estimate.
Furthermore, based on the analysis of demographic factors of respondents, parental social support with a mean of 3.33% in the high estimate, this proves that demographic factors (level of education, gender, and age) can determine the level of parental social support, then descriptive analysis based on variables, the level of existing parental social support was obtained with a mean of 3.28 which is in the high estimate.
A significant contribution was obtained between the variable of parental social support (X) to the adjustment (Y) of dropout adolescents in Tenayan Raya District, which contributed 53.2% with a moderate estimate, because there was still 46.8% determined by other factors that were not part of this study.
