This research was conducted in Alah Air Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Meranti Islands Regency with the aim of finding out the role of wives in increasing family economic income in Alah Air Village. This study uses a qualitative method by taking 5 (five) research subjects. In this study, two subject determination techniques were used, namely deliberately (purposive) and (snowball). The data obtained through primary data and secondary data were collected by observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study show that the role of wives who work outside the home as domestic assistants is due to several factors: increasing economic levels and low incomes, and irregular income of husbands because the husband also works in the informal sector such as construction workers, barbers, and freelance day laborers. Their education level, which is only limited to the junior high school level, does not have many options other than to work as a domestic assistant. By working outside the home, the wife has two roles, namely the domestic role and the public role, but it is not a problem for them the wife can divide her time well between being a wife and mother at home and having to work outside the home. This job is a part-time job that only uses 2-4 hours of working time. The income of the wife working as a domestic assistant can help increase economic income.
