Sintesis Dan Karakterisasi Katalis Cao-Fe2o3 Dari Cangkang Kerang Darah Dan Serbuk Fe2o3 Untuk Produksi Biodiesel : Optimasi Menggunakan Response Surface Methodology
Biodiesel poduction currrently focussed on the used of heterogeneous catalyst. CaO catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst that is commonly used for biodiesel synthesis. The CaO catalyst has a weakness, namely the presence of Ca2+ which results in saponification reaction, easily reacts with air and water vapour which form Ca(OH)2 thereby reduced the catalytic activity of the catalyst, the formation of suspensions and has a small surface area. Modification of the CaO catalyst with the addition of metal oxide (Fe2O3) was carried out to increase its catalytic activity, increase the surface area, provide acidsites, thus resulted in high catalytic activity. The aim of this research is to synthesis the CaO-Fe2O3 catalyst with variations in the weight CaO: Fe2O3, namely 6:1, 6:3 and 6:5 (w/w). The CaO catalyst was obtained from blood cockle shells wich was calcined at 900C for 5 hours. The CaO-Fe2O3 catalyst was characterized using the Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) method, showed surface area of the CaO-Fe2O3 were 11.407 m2g-1; 10.960 m2g-1 and 17.471 m2g-1 respectively. XRD analysis showed the types of portlandite (Ca(OH)2), lime (CaO) and hematite (α-Fe2O3) minerals. XRF analysis showed that the CaO content decreases with increasing Fe2O3 content in the catalyst. FTIR analysis show that there ia an absorption band peak at 3643 cm-1, 546-567 cm-1 and 425 cm-1 indicating the presence of OH functional groups, Fe-O stretching vibration and Ca-O bonds. Based on optimized results used RSM, the optimum yield was obtained used the the CaO-Fe2O3 6:5 catalyst with a catalyst weight of 3% w/w, a reaction time of 120 minutes and an oil:methanol mole ratio of 1:9 with a biodiesel yield of 97.982%. The characteristics of biodiesel produced from the CaO-Fe2O3 6:1, 6:3 and 6:5 catalyst have a water content, spesific gravity, viscosity and carbon residue which are in accordance with the requirements of SNI 7182-2015 except for the acid number test.
