Prarancangan Pabrik Vinil Klorida Dari Etana Proses Klorinasi Langsung Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Hidrogen Klorida (T-201)
Vinyl chloride is commonly produced as an ingredient for polymers, especially polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The purpose of establishing a vinyl chloride plant is to increase domestic production capacity and build Indonesia's ability to become an exporter. Vinyl chloride is produced through a direct chlorination process with ethane and chlorine as the main raw materials. The process takes place in a fixed bed reactor at 286°C and 1.5 atm pressure which produces 1,2-dichloroethane with 98% conversion. Then 1,2-dichloroethane joins the recycle stream fed to the furnace reactor (R-202). In the furnace reactor (R-202) a pyrolysis process occurs so that vinyl chloride and HCl are obtained. Vinyl chloride as the main product is separated and purified using a distillation column, in order to obtain 99% purity while the bottom output 1,2-dichloroethane is recycled. The vinyl chloride plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously for 24 hours/day. Work in one day is divided into three shifts and each shift works for 8 hours. The plant has a capacity of 270,000 tons/year to be established in Cilegon City, Banten. The direct chlorination process was chosen because of the affordable raw material price, less extreme process, high purity of vinyl chloride product, and recycle on pyrolysis. The economic analysis in this plant design shows a Break Event Point (BEP) value of 40%, Shut Down Point (SDP) of 14%, Pay Back Period (PBP) for 2 years, Rate of Investment (ROI) of 55.03%, and Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.759%. Based on the analysis of process and economic conditions, the vinyl chloride plant is feasible and has good prospects.
