Rancangan Pabrik Maleic Anhydride Proses Benzene Oxidation Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Absorpsi Maleic Anhydride (T-301)
Maleic anhydride is the main ingredient in the production of several chemical products, one of which is unsaturated polyester resins and alkyd resins. Based on its function, maleic anhydride is included in the basic chemical product category. Production of maleic anhydride is estimated to increase rapidly with a value of 3.65 million tons in 2030. Maleic anhydride is produced commercially by catalytic oxidation of gas phase benzene. The location of the maleic anhydride factory is planned to be established in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, where this location is close to the producer of the main raw material for making maleic anhydride, namely benzene which is produced by Pertamina RU-IV Cilacap.
The maleic anhydride production process using HSD fixed-bed process technology has several advantages, namely easy operation, smaller investment and greater maleic anhydride yield. The provision of factory utilities, namely water and electricity, is obtained from the water treatment system and factory electricity supply with a capacity of 34,680,700 liters/hour and 2,490.53 kW. Liquid waste processing is carried out by going through a screener, chemical treatment, carbon adsorption and ion exchange. CO2, CO and N2 waste gas processing is carried out using a flare system (gas flare). The factory process control system is carried out using sensors and controller equipment and is equipped with safety equipment such as alarms, pressure safety valves, check valves, gate valves, hand control valves, vents, and anti-surge control valves.
Profitability analysis carried out at the maleic anhydride factory using the benzene oxidation process is breakeven point (BEP), Return on investment (ROI), payback period (PBP), net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and sensitivity analysis. The BEP, ROI, PBP, NPV and IRR values of the maleic anhydride factory are 40.32%; 16%; 4.7 years; Rp. 748,878,247,785; and 20%. The results of sensitivity analysis show that the net present value can be stable if there are changes in raw material costs. However, changes in product prices, production costs and initial investment greatly influence the net present value. Based on a comparison with the project carried out by UNIDO, the maleic anhydride plant design is economically superior, therefore this plant is very feasible to establish.
