ABSTRACT
The sustainability of farming in the present era is a common concern, because the
agricultural sector is a very vital aspect for fulfilling the needs of human life,
especially in fulfilling food. High tourism activity every year has an impact on the
potential threat to the sustainability of rice paddy farming in Nagari Harau. This can
be seen from one of them from the original expanse of rice fields converted into
places or accommodations to meet the needs of tourism activities. This study aims
to reveal the sustainability status of paddy rice farming and the sensitive attributes
that influence it in Nagari Harau, Harau District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The
research method used was a survey by making paddy farmers in Nagari Harau as
actors of paddy rice farming. Sampling is done by probability sampling technique
with simple random sampling method by taking 10 percent of the population as a
sample. Data analysis using the Multidimensional Scalling (MDS) method using
the Rap-Fish analysis tool. The results showed that the sustainability status of paddy
rice farming in Nagari Harau was included in the moderately sustainable category
with an average index value of 51.91; the economic dimension was moderately
sustainable with an index value of 69.87; the social dimension was moderately
sustainable with an index value of 63.60; and the ecological dimension was
unsustainable with an index value of 22.28. Sensitive attributes that affect
sustainability in the economic dimension are farmers' perceptions of grain prices,
capital entities, and land ownership status; sensitive attributes of sustainability in
the social dimension are the level of farmer participation in farmer groups, farmer
education and labor used; and sensitive attributes of sustainability in the ecological
dimension are land suitability.
