Rancangan Pabrik Methyl Ester Sulfonic Acid Dari Metil Ester Minyak Nabati Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Plug Flow (R-102)
ABSTRACT
Methyl ester sulfonate (MES) is a group of anionic surfactants made through the sulfonation process. Methyl ester sulfonic acid is used to make liquid detergents. In Indonesia, there are not many factories or producers of methyl ester sulfonic acid so that imports are made to meet the needs. Therefore, the processing of methyl ester sulfonic acid is needed to meet the needs of methyl ester sulfonic acid in Indonesia. The location of the factory is planned to be established in the Dumai-Pelintung Industrial Area, Dumai City, Riau Province. The production capacity of this factory is 180,000 tons/year. The preliminary design of the methyl ester sulfonic acid factory from vegetable oil methyl esters uses falling film reactor technology with methyl ester and sulfur trioxide raw materials. Methyl esters are obtained from PT. Wilmar Nabati Indonesia which is located in Dumai City.
The preliminary design of the methyl ester sulfonic acid plant from vegetable oil methyl esters uses falling film reactor technology with methyl ester and sulfur trioxide as raw materials. Methyl esters are obtained from PT. Wilmar Nabati Indonesia located in Dumai City. The MESA manufacturing process consists of three processes. The first process is sulfonation between methyl ester and sulfur trioxide with Al2O3 catalyst in a falling film reactor producing an intermediate in the form of alpha-sulpho methyl ester. The reaction operates at a pressure of 1.4 atm and a temperature of 80˚C. The second process is mixing the intermediate in the form of alpha-sulpho methyl ester with methanol with Al2O3 catalyst in a multitube plug flow reactor producing methyl ester sulfonic acid and a by-product in the form of sodium bisulfite. The reaction takes place at a temperature of 85℃ and a pressure of 1 atm. The third process is the purification process between methyl ester sulfonic acid and water in a continuous stirred tank reactor producing methyl ester sulfonic acid and a by-product in the form of methanol. The reaction takes place at a temperature of 75°C and a pressure of 1 atm. The water requirements for the production process, sanitation water, cooling water and boiler feed are obtained from the Dumai River. Electricity supply can be obtained from PT. PLN Persero and generators. The waste produced from this factory is liquid waste from cooling water waste and domestic liquid waste.
The planned company form is a Limited Liability Company (PT) using a line and staff organization system with a working day of 330 days/year. The workforce needed to run this company is 357 people divided into 279 shift employees and 78 non-shift employees. The results of the profitability analysis show a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp1,098,802,176,290.6. Return on Investment (ROI) 32.339%, Payback Period (PBP) 3.09 years, and Break Even Point (BEP) at a production capacity of 37.797%. From the economic analysis of the factory, it can be concluded that the factory is feasible to be established with a stable market position and a medium investment risk level.
