The purpose of this study was to determine whether the application of a play
approach can improve forward roll floor gymnastics skills. The benefits of this
study are to provide educators with an overview of the use of the application of an
appropriate play approach in teaching and learning activities, so that it can improve
students' abilities in performing forward roll floor gymnastics movements. The type
of research used in this study is action research and is carried out in two cycles,
each cycle begins with planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects
of this study were 33 students of grade V SDN 183 Pekanbaru class V-B. Data were
collected from observation results and forward roll skill test results. The results of
this study indicate that there was an increase in student learning outcomes, as
evidenced by the data from cycle 1, students who were categorized as complete
were 24 students (73%) and students who did not complete were 9 students (27%).
In cycle II, a significant increase was seen in that 28 students (85%) completed and
5 students (15%) did not complete. In addition, the play approach can increase
student activity in learning forward rolls. Thus it can be concluded that the
application of the play approach is effective in improving the forward roll floor
gymnastics skills of grade V students of SDN 183 Pekanbaru. To teachers to be able
to apply the results of this study continuously so that they can apply this play
approach as an alternative in the learning process as an effort to improve students'
floor gymnastics skills, especially forward rolls.
