The Correlation Between Vocabulary Achievementand Reading Ability Of The Second Year Students At Smp 3 Pekanbar
This was a correlation research. This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Pekanbaru. The participants were the second year students, particularly VIII 3 that consisted of 40 students. There were two variables in this research. They were vocabulary as variable X and reading as variable Y. There were four objectives on this research that the writer would like to obtain. They are: (1) To find out how good the students’ ability in vocabulary achievement is. (2) To find out how good the students’ reading comprehension is. (3) To examine wether there is correlation between students’ vocabulary achievement and their reading comprehension. (4) To investigate how the correlation of students’ vocabulary achievement and their reading comprehension. This research started on September, 2013 and ended on October, 2013. After accomplishing this research, There was very significant correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension which is 0,68 (rxy). The value of the degree freedom (df) was 38 since there was 40 students and two observed variables. So, we could see from the table of product moment that rt was 0,320. Null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted since rxy > rt (0,68>0,320). It means that the vocabulary mastery supports the students in comrehending reading texts..
