This study aims to find answers to the problems of the influence of the increased use of ro-ro services to the local economy and the development of rural areas. The impact assessment carried out on the level of welfare of the people around that can be studied through; public income, employment, business opportunities and property ownership. The method used is a qualitative approach to data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation. The location was chosen as a place of research is the village of Sungai Selari and village Air Putih Roll on – Roll off ships place reliance in the process of loading and unloading of goods and passengers.
The survey results revealed that the post increasing use Roll on – Roll off services rute Air Putih – Sungai Selari has brought a significant impact on the economic life of the surrounding community. Roll on – Roll off vessel servicing activities, which grew rapidly boost per capita income of the community, especially for the business trade, public transportation services and labor. Encourage the growth and development of new economic efforts at the community level as well as opening up wider employment opportunities in the field of transport systems and services and trade sectors. Besides the increase in production helped roro transport contributed to the decline in the prices of goods needs of the community and encourage development of rural basic infrastructure such as roads access, economic means and development of public transport.
