Pembuatan Biodiesel Dari Crude Palm Oil (Cpo) Dengan Katalis La/Nza
Total petroleum reserves are declining causing high world oil prices, to overcome this it is necessary to develop alternative renewable energy derived from vegetable oil, one of which is biodiesel. Purposes of this research were to produce biodiesel from CPO as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel, having study the ratio of impregnation La on NZA and catalyst weight to the yield of biodiesel and to determine the characteristics of catalyst and biodiesel. The La/NZA catalyst is made as followed by grinding the natural zeolite to a size of -100 + 200 mesh, then the zeolite is activated using solution of HCL 6N and NH4Cl 1 N, then dried. La is impregnated into NZA having continued variations of 0, 1 and 3% (w/w) of NZA, then dried using oven and calcination, oxidation and reduction. Production of biodiesel is carried out through two stages: esterification and transesterification, while in the transesterification process variation of impregnation La on NZA is 0% La, 1% La and 3% La and variation of catalyst weight 1, 2 and 3% La/NZA (w/w) for 80 grams of CPO having methanol with the ratio of oil : methanol 1 : 9 in transesterification reactor. Reaction lasted for 60 minutes at 60ºC with 400 rpm stirring speed. The highest yield resulted on using 1%La/NZA catalyst with catalyst weight 3% which is 85.37%. Characteristics of the catalyst that has a surface area and ratio of Si/Al is large enough with biodiesel produced in accordance with predefined standards. La/NZA catalysts have good selectivity against methyl oleate.
