Degradasi Metilen Biru Dengan Bantuan Katalis Mangan Oksida Struktur Berongga Tipe Cryptomelane Dipreparasi Dengan Metode Refluk
The cyptomelane-type manganese oxide Octahedral Molecular Sieve (OMS-2) has been succesfully synthesized using reflux process by the reaction between KMnO4 (oxidant) and MnSO4 (reductant) in acidic conditions. The products were characterized by XRD to determine their structure, crystallinity and purity, whereas SEM is used to characterized their morphology. The XRD data indicated that the tunnel cryptomelane-type manganese oxide was produced with no other phase detected. The SEM results show the agglomeration morphology with surface area of 38.260 m2/g. The catalytic activities of as-synthesized cryptomelane toward the degradation of methylene blue was conducted using 50 ppm concentration of methylene blue, 100 mg cryptomelane catalyst, 15 mL H2O2 30% and temperature of 80oC. The results indicated that the maximum degradation was attained to be 86.21%. Kinetics studies show degradation methylene blue follows second-order reaction kinetics with the activation energy of 41.5284 kJ/ mol.
