Ekstraksi Silika Limbah Abu Layang Batubara Sebagai Bahan Baku Pembuatan Filler Kertas
The problems were facing by PT. IKPP Perawang are high coal fly ash and paper bulk (volume/weight) of print paper. The content of silica on the coal fly ash (CFA) used as raw material to prepare paper filler. Silica from this CFA was optimized by various concentration of sodium hidroxide (1, 2, 3, 4 & 5N), reaction time (1,2, 3 & 4 h), mass ratio of fly ash to NaOH (1 :3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6) and stirring rate (300, 400, 500 & 600 rpm). The synthesized filler (named CFAS) was characterized by using instrument particle size distribution analyzer (PSDA), Fourrier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) & X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The paper loaded filler CFAS properties like basis weight (g/m2), folding, bulk, tensile strength and streching, thickness, tearing & bursting were analyzed. In this research, the highest silica extraction was goten from NaOH concentration 5 N, mass ratio of fly ash to NaOH 1:4, reaction time 4 hours and strring speed 500 rpm. The result of analysis EDX, XRD and FTIR shows CaSiO3 fase formed with the impurities like CaCO3, MgO, Al2O3 and (CaOH)2. The CFAS filler actually can increase paper bulk which higher than both (GCC and PCC). The optical properties like brightnesss of paper-CFAS slightly higher than paper-GCC and slightly lower than paper-PCC. The Opacity of paper-AlbS was lower than paper-GCC and higher than paper-PCC. In this research can be concluded that the CFAS filler can increase paper bulk and slightly increasing paper optical properties.
