ISPO certification for oil palm independent smallholders consist of four principles i.e.
legality of plantation, smallholder’s organization and plantation management,
environmental management, and commitment for continuous improvement. The
objective of this research is to analyse application of ISPO standards at oil palm
smallholder cooperative and to formulate strategy of ISPO application by relevant
stakeholders. The study was conducted at Beringin Jaya Cooperative at Siak District.
This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis and strategic analyses using SWOT
matrics. The result show that the cooperative apply 54.17% of ISPO standards, i.e. 26
indicators of 48 indicators. This study suggests some development strategies to meet
the ISPO standards including assistance and direction through government agencies
to smallholders to avoid negatives impact during certification process, technical
assistance, counseling and training on good agricultural practices, funding support
from government and financial institutions, and using cooperative, farmer groups,
and mills to disseminate ISPO standards to farmers.
