Fraction have been introduced since the Egyptian era. Egyptian people was
interested to learn about the sum of fraction with a numerator is equal to one or
they called it an Egyptian fraction. Every rational fraction can be expanded to a
sum of some Egyptian Fraction. This thesis discusses the formation of rational
fractions from the sum of four Egyptian fractions through various methods. Some
of that method is geometric series, the pairing method, and splitting method.
First, the rational fraction will be check to verify if it is fulfill the condition for
geometry series method. Then, pairing and splitting method will be used to help
reach the sum of four Egyptian fraction. Determination of unit fractions to
form the sum of four unit fractions is based the sum of three unit fractions and
added to the splitting method. The splitting method is a method for converting
one fractional unit to the sum of two different fraction units. This method of
splitting is based on what is commonly called the separation identity. By combining
the two methods, it is obtained the general form of the sum of four unit
fractions.
