ABSTRACT
This study aims to determine the level of the role of agricultural extension
workers, determine the level of empowerment of rice farmers and analyze the
effect of the role of extension on the empowerment of rice farmers. This research
was conducted in Belading Village, Sabak Auh District, Siak Regency in
February-October 2021. The research method used is a survey method with a
sample of 50 farmers with a sampling technique of Cluster Random Sampling.
The results showed that the level of the role of the extension worker in lowland
rice farming activities in Belading Village was categorized as having a role. The
role of the extension worker is seen from the role of education, dissemination,
facilitation, consultation, supervision, as well as monitoring and evaluation.
Extension workers are able to improve farmers' knowledge and skills, disseminate
information, facilitate farmers' needs, provide consultation to develop farmers and
monitor and evaluate lowland rice farming by farmers. The level of empowerment
of lowland rice farmers in Belading Village is categorized as very empowered.
Empowerment of farmers is seen from human resources, productive economy, and
farmer institutions. Extension workers have been able to embrace all farmers and
influence the mindset of farmers to be more advanced and have the will and
courage to realize the welfare of farmer households. The role of the extension
agent, namely education, facilitation, dissemination, supervision, consultation,
and monitoring and evaluation has a significant effect simultaneously or partially
on the empowerment of lowland rice farmers.
