Potensi Interaksi Obat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Di Rsud Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau Tahun 2017-2019
Drug interactions are drug responses to other drugs, foods, or comorbid conditions.
Potential drug interactions generally occur in the elderly population, in the elderly
population there was often an increase in the prevalence of comorbid diseases,
causing many drug prescriptions to be given, especially in patients with Benign
Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), which generally occurs mostly in elderly men, who
aged around 60 years and over. One type of drug indicated for BPH patients is
-blocker. One of the -blocker drugs is tamsulosin. Tamsulosin may interact with
anti-hypertensive drugs such as candesartan and furosemide thereby increased the
hypotensive effect. This study aimed to determine the potential for drug interactions
of BPH in Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province in 2017-2019. This study method
is retrospective descriptive. This study used a sample of inpatient medical records of
BPH patients for the period January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019 at the Arifin
Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, which met the inclusion criteria, obtained 162
patient medical records. Based on this study, most of the number of drugs given was
1-5 drugs (74.7%), most of the type of BPH drug that was given were -blockers 160
drugs (92%), potential drug interactions for BPH in 15 patients (9.3 %), the most
level of BPH drug interactions was the minor level 12 interactions (60%). This study
showed that there was still potential for BPH drug interactions. Undetected BPH
drug interactions can increased toxicity or decreased the effectiveness of interacting
drugs.
