ABSTRACT
Youth as the agent of development and the visualization of our civilization in the
future is the most effecting generation in the future. But in reality, delinquency
and crime in Indonesia’s young generation has a trend of increasing the number
of cases every year. The City of Pekanbaru with its nickname as Kota Madani has
the noble vision to become an advanced city that always based on religious values
through the development of a civilized and religious society, and Islam as the
majority religion in Pekanbaru has an important role in fostering the youth.
Unfortunately, most of the public facilities that are often used by young people to
spend their free time are still inadequate in encouraging their potential, in fact
they are often misused that it triggers negative potential develops among them
instead. With that being said, there is definitely a need for a communal facility or
space that not only functions as a place of recreation, but also as education and
coaching through the development of interests and talents to prevent the
formation of delinquency and crime between them. The design of the Islamic
Youth Center facility in Pekanbaru aims to accommodate the activities and the
needs of Muslim youth by applying Islamic architectural themes and
environmental settings. The design uses the case studies and combined strategies
method, starting with determining the function and space needed, then applying
Islamic architectural principles that will support the concept in the design. To
meet the needs of the younger generation in Pekanbaru, the facilities at the
Islamic Youth Center in Pekanbaru are divided into non-formal education
facilities, interest and talent development facilities, recreational facilities, and
other supporting facilities. Applying eight design principles based on the Qur'an
and As-Sunnah by Utaberta, the design uses the concept of "Hablun" (bond),
which is a concept that comes from three types of bonds formed in the process of
worshipping Allah SWT, namely habluminallah, habluminannas, and
habluminal'alamin.
