ABSTRACT
The research was conducted in Kuala Cenaku District, Indragiri Hulu
Regency. The purpose of the study was to determine the characteristics of farmers
and the implementation of extension, to analyze the role of extension workers,
farmers' perceptions and factors related to farmers' perceptions of the role of
extension workers. The sampling technique is the Proportional Random Sampling
technique. The data analysis method used is descriptive, Likert scale and
Spearman rank correlation. The results showed that the farmers had a productive
age, high school education, four dependents, more than 10 years of farming, selfowned
land, 1.5-2.5 hectares of land, adequate level of knowledge, high intensity
of farmer interaction and farmer involvement. in the high farmer group. The
implementation of the extension is fostered by four extension workers, with the
target of all rice farmers and other farmers, extension materials are adapted to the
needs of farmers, media in the form of aids and teaching aids, using face-to-face
methods, visits and demonstrations, carried out at village halls and farmers' fields.
The role of facilitators and educators is very important, the role of communicators
and motivators is very important. Perceptions of farmers about the role of rice
instructors as facilitators, educators are very satisfied and as motivators and
communicators are satisfied. Factors that have a relationship with farmers'
perceptions of the role of extension workers are the intensity of farmer
interactions, farmers' involvement in farmer groups, farmer's level of knowledge,
number of dependents.
