Analisis Risiko Tsunami Di Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai Pasca Tsunami Mentawai 2010
ABSTRACT
The west coast of Sumatra has a very high frequency of earthquakes
because it is located at the confluence of the Indo-Australian Plate and Eurasian
Plate. Earthquakes that occur on the seabed will increase the vulnerability of
tsunamis. One of the districts in West Sumatra Province that is highly vulnerable
to tsunami is the Mentawai Islands Regency. Risk assessment is very dependent
on the level of regional threat, vulnerability of the threatened area and the capacity
of the area. This research was carried out in January 2022, in which the Mentawai
Islands Regency was used as the study. The objectives by conducting this study
are to indicate the hazard, vulnerable and risk zones of a tsunami in the Mentawai
Islands Regency. The method used in this research is the integration of remote
sensing which utilizes the spatial analysis functions. Ground checks are also
carried out as a support data. The tsunami hazard in the Mentawai Islands
Regency is at a high level hazard with an index value of 0.987. Vulnerability in
the Mentawai Islands Regency to the tsunami disaster is classified into the
medium-high level with an index of 0.6820. The capacity at the research site is
still classified in the medium level with an index value of 0.365. The tsunami risk
in the Mentawai Islands Regency is in the high-level risk, with a risk area around
47,444.986 Ha and an index value of 0.7504. A high category of tsunami risk is
found in almost all coastal areas of the Mentawai Islands Regency. However, the
high-risk area was found larger on the western coast, this is because the western
part is closer to the Sumatra megathrust where a main hazard in the form of the
earthquake was bigger than the east coast.
